Bei Dirk von Gehlen bin ich auf ein Zitat von Karl Marx gestoßen, welches vor dem Hintergrund so mancher Urheberrechtsdebatte ganz interessant ist:
Das Volk sieht die Strafe, aber es sieht nicht das Verbrechen, und weil es die Strafe sieht, wo kein Verbrechen ist, wird es schon darum kein Verbrechen sehen, wo die Strafe ist. Indem ihr die Kategorie des Diebstahls da anwendet, wo sie nicht angewendet werden darf, habt ihr sie auch da beschönigt, wo sie angewendet werden muß.

Das ist es, was Lawrence Lessig als “deeply corrossive” für den Respekt vor dem Gesetz bezeichnet:
“A concerted campaign by rights holders, politicians, school administrators, and increasingly parents has convinced kids that their behavior violates the law. But that law breaking continues. We call our kids crooks; after a while, they believe it. And like black marketeers in Soviet Russia, they live life getting comfortable with the idea that what seems “obvious” and “reasonable” to them is a crime. They get used to being criminal.
This fact is deeply corrosive. As with Prohibition, it is profoundly corrupting. And over time, it will only weaken our kids' respect for the law.”
